      QUALITY
IS EVERYTHING

We never compromise on quality, so we replace or rebuild every component to factory specification. Our standards are extremely high and we believe all our customers should benefit from these standards. So once a piano has been through our workshop – through the hands of true artisans, it truly is better than new.

It takes around 220 hours to make a brand new Steinway & Sons Model D concert grand, and it takes us over 250 hours to rebuild a piano. Hand-crafted and hand-finished with passion and attention to detail by our team of master craftsman.

      A SOUND
INVESTMENT

Whether it’s a family Heirloom, an aesthetically pleasing piece of furniture, an antique or a piano you enjoy to play, if its one of the big four manufacturers then chances are its definitely worth investing in.

A fully rebuilt piano will be less expensive than a brand new piano and would have a much superior tonal quality. Being fully restored and rebuilt will also add value to such a beautiful instrument.

UNPARALLELED
   TONE

Derrick and Colin Leverett were the pioneers of soundboard replacement. At Piano Restorations, we still use their methods today. Under the watchful eye of Colin Leverett, our soundboards are completely crafted by hand from hand-selected sitka spruce. From the techniques developed by Derrick and Colin we are able to enhance the resonance of the piano creating an unparalleled tone – far superior in quality to when the piano was new.

      FLAWLESS
CASEWORK

First impressions are everything. The casework on a piano has to match the outstanding beauty of the instrument inside and out.

Whatever finish a client requests – satin black, rosewood, mahogany, or restoring the original finish, we ensure the beauty and aesthetics are maintained and the finish is longer-lasting than the original.

ELEGANT
   FRAME

The frame is the stronghold of any piano, withstanding thousands of pounds of pressure from the tension of the strings.

Over time, this tension can cause cracks in the frame which need to be fixed. Once the gilding is stripped, we use special sprays, liquid metal and magnets to identify cracks in frames. Our trained staff professionally cold-stitch any cracks (never weld), before the correct colour of gild is freshly reapplied to the cast iron frame.

This tried and tested technique ensures the longevity of the instrument.

      PUTTING IT INTO
ACTION

From fingers to keys, keys to hammers and hammers to strings, the action is an integral part of the piano and must be fluid and play with elegance.

There are not many people with the skills and experience of the Leverett family on the Blüthner patent action, regulating and voicing it.

We also use the world’s number one action manufacturer Kluge Klaviaturen, who supply keys for Steinway & Sons pianos.

This allows us to ensure your piano only gets the the finest quality parts.

KEY
   COVERING

Using specialised equipment and techniques, we have turned key covering into an art form. Every tiny detail – shape, radius, chamfer, thickness, finish, stressless materials, key width and spacing is addressed, allowing the player to avoid the distraction of irregular keys and inconsistency. This means the pianist can become very intimate and trusting of their keyboard.

At Piano Restorations, we have also developed our own signature keys and action, designed and supervised by Colin Leverett.

      STRINGS
OF LIFE

When you strike that note or chord, the sense of pleasure radiates with the sound. Everything comes together – the new wrest plank, tuning pins, pin block, new original strings followed by incomparable tuning and voicing. Your new piano will excel in heightened tone like never before.

When restringing a piano we only use the finest quality strings. Each piano is individually measured and string rubbings are taken to ensure the correct length and size string are fitted to the frame.
